- NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANGES OF WINNING.
EACH MINOR ENTRANT'S PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN AGREES ON BEHALF OF THE MINOR ENTRANT TO THESE OFFICIAL RULES. THE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN OF EACH MINOR WINNER MAY BE REQUIRED TO EXECUTE A RELEASE AND PRIZE ACCEPTANCE AGREEMENT.
EACH TEACHER AGREES ON BEHALF OF HIMSELF OR HERSELF AND HIS OR HER CLASSROOM TO THESE OFFICIAL RULES. THE TEACHER OF EACH CLASSROOM WINNER MAY BE REQUIRED TO EXECUTE A RELEASE AND PRIZE ACCEPTANCE AGREEMENT.
Void where prohibited. - Eligibility. The "Help Igor Get To The Science Fair" Reading Contest (the "Contest") is open to two categories of entrants.
The first eligibility category (for the "Individual Student Contest") consists of legal residents of one of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia who are registered users of Book Adventure's web site, between the ages of nine (9) and fourteen (14) (inclusive) at the time of entry.
The second eligibility category (for the "Classroom Contest") consists of classes of between 10 and 50 children in grades 4 (four) through 8 (eight) in schools in one of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and who are represented by a teacher who is over the age of 21.
Employees, and the immediate family members (including spouse, mother, father, in-laws, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, children or grandchildren) or employees of Educate, Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively, "Sponsor"); Exodus Film Group and its subsidiaries and affiliates; MGM and its subsidiaries and affiliates; and their respective promotional and advertising agencies are not eligible to enter and/or win. Limit one entry per person.
- Contest Period. The Contest will begin at 10:01 PM (Eastern) on August 25, 2008 and will run through 11:59 PM (Eastern) on October 17, 2008 (the "Contest Period").
- How to Enter.
(a) The Individual Student Contest. In order to enter the Individual Student Contest, entrants must have an existing, or create a new, Book Adventure account. Entrants may create an account by visiting Book Adventure's web site (www.BookAdventure.com), clicking on the "New Users - Register Now!" button, and following all instructions.
(b) The Classroom Contest. In order to enter the Classroom Contest, teachers must send an email to Book.Adventure@Educate.com indicating their intent to register their classroom. Teachers must include their names and the class name (i.e. , school and grade) of the classroom entrant. Within two (2) business days after the conclusion of the Contest Period, all teachers on behalf of their Classroom Entrant must submit a report showing the cumulative quiz score for their class for points earned during Contest Period. These scores will be audited by the Sponsor to verify accuracy.
One entry per person or per classroom. Students who are part of a Classroom Entrant are not eligible to enter the Individual Student Contest as well.
Individual Student Contest Entrants and students who are not part of a Classroom Entrant may participate in the Contest by clicking on the "Team" link at the bottom left corner of the home page and then clicking on the "Join a team" link. Entrants must enter "Igor" as the team name and "IR461" as the team pin number. Entrants must then accumulate points by completing quizzes on books they have read; the quizzes can be accessed by clicking on the Book Adventure Quiz-O-Matic. Points will be awarded for each completed quiz, and a winner selected, per Section 5 below.
In order to count towards an entrant's total Contest points, all quizzes must be completed prior to the close of the Contest Period. Entrants using macro, robotic, script, or other forms of automatic entry will be disqualified.Sponsor will not be responsible for incomplete, lost, late, misdirected, or illegible entries or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failure or technical failures of any kind, including without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or Sponsor. The validity of any entries shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, and Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest. All entries become the property of Sponsor. - Selection of Winner. Individual Student Contest Entrants and students who are part of a Classroom Contest entrant will earn points based on their answers to multiple-choice quizzes, for the appropriate grade level of the individual completing the quiz, as follows:
The one (1) Individual Student Contest Entrant receiving the highest point total during the Contest Period will be awarded the Individual Student Grand Prize. The one (1) Classroom Contest Entrant receiving the highest average points total during the Contest Period will be awarded the Classroom Contest Grand Prize.Book Grade Level

Ties will be resolved in favor of the individual (in the case of the Individual Student Contest, or the classroom (in the case of the Classroom Contest) who achieved a score of 90% or above in the most number of quizzes. If a tie still remains, the tie will be determined in favor of the individual (in the case of the Individual Student Contest, or the classroom (in the case of the Classroom Contest) who completed the most quizzes overall, regardless of score. The correct answers to quizzes, as well as the appropriate grade level of each book, are determined by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion.
- Prizes. The following prizes will be awarded:
Grand Prize for the Individual Student Contest: (one (1) to be awarded): two (2) scholarships for Space Camp and two (2) $500 airfare vouchers (approximate retail value: $1,300 per scholarship; airfare vouchers for $500 each; $3,600 total. )
Winners can choose SPACE CAMP®, Space Academy®, Advanced Academy® Advanced Academy for Adults, Aviation Challenge® Mach I through Mach III, or either of the Parent/Child or child programs in Huntsville, AL. Said tuitions retail for up to Thirteen Hundred and No/100 ($1,300.00) USD each - depending on the specific program chosen. Winners must be age appropriate for the particular camp at the time of attendance. Each program includes ground transportation to and from Huntsville International Airport, meals, lodging, educational programs and materials, a team t-shirt, team photo, camp graduation wings and certificate. Shirts are customized with a logo from winning camp program. There is fifty dollar registration/administration fee which is not included, but will be paid by Sylvan Learning. Sponsor will not exchange tuitions for cash. Above package does not include any transportation, meals or lodging for accompanying parents who are not otherwise already enrolled in camp (ie: parent/child programs). Air-fare vouchers for $500 each for 2 winners valid until September 27, 2010. Winners are responsible for all expenses not expressly provided for above, including, without limitation, those incurred for any other ground transportation, taxis, hotels, parking, additional snacks, beverages and food, incidentals, telephone calls, souvenirs, or to their personal expenses or camp charges incurred during the trip. SPACE CAMP® reserves the right to approve any travel dates at SPACE CAMP®, and travel must be completed by September 27, 2010, or prize will be forfeited. Trip must be booked a minimum of thirty (30) days in advance and the winner must be able to travel on dates specified by sponsor. Certain black-out dates and other restrictions may apply. All prize details not specified herein are at the sole discretion of sponsors. Prizes must be awarded in the name of the parent or legal guardian who must sign and return all required documents and who will be responsible for reporting and payment of any applicable federal, state and local taxes. Winners parent or legal guardian will receive and IRS 1099 Form and will be required to sign a tax acknowledgment in acceptance of the prize. The value of the prize will be stated on the acknowledgement and on any and all corresponding tax forms. Winners have the right to forfeit the prize, in which case nothing will be awarded in its place to that person and an alternate winner will be selected. No cash equivalent for any portion of the prizes.
Grand Prize for the Classroom Contest: (one (1) to be awarded): in-school classroom screening of Igor (approximate retail value: $8.50 per student; $255.00 total - based on a classroom with 30 (thirty) students. Retail value is dependent upon actual classroom size. )
The total approximate retail value of all prizes is $3,855.00 (Actual retail value is dependent upon the classroom size of the winning classroom. ) Additional prize details not specified in these Official Rules will be determined in by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Sponsor will not exchange prize for cash. - Winner Notification and Acceptance. In the case of the Individual Student Contest, the parent or legal guardian of each potential prize winner will be notified by email, sent to the parent at the email address provided at the time of registration with Book Adventure, on or about November 1, 2008. In the case of the Classroom Contest, teacher of the winning classroom will be notified by email, sent to the teacher at the email address provided at the time of registration with Book Adventure, on or about November 1, 2008. Return of prize notification (or any other Contest communication) as undeliverable after a reasonable attempt has been made by Sponsor (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion) may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. In the case of the Individual Student Contest, the grand prize will be awarded in the name of the entrant's parent or legal guardian and documents allowing the winner to claim the prize will be sent to the physical address provided by the parent or legal guardian or teacher at time of prize verification and acceptance. In the case of the Classroom Contest, the grand prize will be awarded in the name of the entrant's teacher anand arrangements for the in-school screening will be made directly with MGM. Winning classroom must abide by school’s stated in-school activity policies, including permission from parents if required by the school. The parent or guardian (in the case of the Individual Student Contest) or teacher (in the case of the Classroom Contest) of winners may waive their right to receive a prize. Prizes are non-assignable and nontransferable. No substitutions allowed, except that prizes are subject to availability and Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value for any reason, including without limitation due to prize unavailability. The parent or guardian or school of each winner is solely responsible for reporting and payment of any federal, state or local taxes on prizes. The parent or guardian (in the case of the Individual Student Contest) or teacher (in the case of the Classroom Contest) of winners will be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility on behalf of their minor child (in the case of the Individual Student Contest) and their classroom (in the case of the Classroom Contest), and will be further required to complete a liability and publicity release (where allowed by law) on behalf of their minor child (in the case of the Individual Student Contest) and their classroom (in the case of the Classroom Contest) as to Sponsor MGM and Exodus Film Group (together, the "Contest Entities"). The failure of the parent or guardian (in the case of the Individual Student Contest) or teacher (in the case of the Classroom Contest) of any winner to complete, sign and return the affidavit or release or to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules may result in a winner's disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and the award of the prize to an alternate winner. All prize claims, affidavits and releases are subject to verification by Sponsor. Except where prohibited by law, acceptance of any prize by a parent or guardian or teacher of a winner constitutes consent to the publication of the minor's name (in the case of the Individual Student Contest) and the teacher's name (in the case of the Classroom Contest) and likeness in any media for any commercial or promotional purpose without further compensation. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery of prizes. All prizes legitimately claimed will be awarded. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. Sponsor will not replace any lost, mutilated, or stolen travel or movie vouchers. If a winner does not accept or use an entire prize, the unaccepted or unused part of the prize will be forfeited and Sponsor will have no further obligation with respect to that prize. Sponsor is not responsible for the inability of any winner to accept or use any prize or portion thereof for any reason.
- Participation. By participating, Individual Student Contest entrants, and their parent/legal guardian of each, and Classroom entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor. If there is a dispute concerning who submitted an entry, and the dispute cannot be resolved to Sponsor's satisfaction, the entry will be deemed ineligible. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify persons in violation of the Official Rules, or who are found tampering with or otherwise abusing any aspect of the Contest, as solely determined by Sponsor. Any person who supplies false information, obtains entries by fraudulent means, or is otherwise determined to be in violation of these Official Rules in an attempt to obtain any prize will forfeit any prize won and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In the event the Contest is comprised by a virus, non-authorized human intervention, tampering, or other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor which corrupts or impairs the administration security, fairness or proper operation of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Contest. Should the Contest be terminated prior to the stated expiration date Sponsor reserves the right to award prizes based on the entries received before the termination date.
- Limitation on Liability. THE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN OF EACH ENTRANT, ON HIS/HER OWN BEHALF AND THAT OF THE ENTRANT (IN THE CASE OF THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT CONTEST) AND THE TEACHER OF EACH CLASSROOM ENTRANT, AGREES TO RELEASE, HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY THE CONTEST ENTITIES, AND EACH OF THEIR RESPECTIVE PARENTS, DIVISIONS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, ADVERTISING, PROMOTION, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS AGENCIES, AND THE RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, REPRESENTATIVES AND AGENTS OF EACH, FOR ANY LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR INJURIES, LOSSES OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND SUSTAINED IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE, ACCEPTANCE, POSSESSION, MISUSE OR AWARDING OF ANY PRIZE OR WHILE PREPARING FOR, PARTICIPATING IN AND/OR TRAVELING TO OR FROM ANY PRIZE-RELATED ACTIVITY, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY INJURY, DAMAGE, DEATH, LOSS, OR ACCIDENT TO PERSON OR PROPERTY. THE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN OF EACH ENTRANT, ON HIS/HER OWN BEHALF AND THAT OF THE ENTRANT (IN THE CASE OF THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT CONTEST) AND THE TEACHER OF EACH CLASSROOM ENTRANT AGREES THAT THE PRIZE IS PROVIDED AS-IS WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY, REPRESENTATION, OR GUARANTEE, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, IN FACT OR IN LAW, WHETHER NOW KNOWN OR HEREINAFTER ENACTED, RELATIVE TO THE USE OR ENJOYMENT OF THE PRIZE, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ITS QUALITY, MERCHANTABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Contest Entities are not responsible and/or liable for any of the following, whether or not caused by a Contest Entity, the entrant, or human error: any lost, late incomplete, illegible, mutilated, or misdirected entries or mail or postage-due mail; any virus, error, omission, interruption, defect or delay in transmission or communication; technical or mechanical malfunctions; interrupted or unavailable cable or satellite systems; errors, typos, or misprints in these Official Rules, in any Contest-related advertisements or other materials; failures of electronic equipment, computer hardware or software; lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications or entry information. - Construction. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the invalidity or unenforceability of any other provision. In the event that any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable these rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
- Sponsor. The Contest is sponsored by Sylvan Learning, Inc. whose decisions regarding the answers to the quizzes, the selection of the winners, and all other aspects of the Contest shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsor shall not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Contest Rules or in other materials relating to the Contest.
